Business Development Manager

Job Role:  Business Development Manager, full time, permanent.

Hours: Standard hours are between 8.00am to 5.00pm. 42.5 hours per week.

28 days’ holiday per annum, plus one additional day per year of service – up to 33 days.

The parent company, Planterra Ltd, looks after its subsidiaries. Blue Iris Landscapes Ltd is a premium, professional gardening and landscaping company which prides itself on a high standard of work and excellent customer service. ProHort Ltd is a Technical Landscape Design company for the horticultural industry and Japanese Knotweed Expert Ltd deals with the remediation of invasive weeds – in particular, Japanese Knotweed which is one of the top 100 most invasive weeds in the world. There are currently thirty-two people employed within the group which is based in Stoke-on-Trent.

About the role:

You must have a proven track record of successful business development with a previous company as we would like you to hit the ground running with the primary focus of increasing commercial business specifically for ProHort Ltd and Japanese Knotweed Expert Ltd. Your role will be ‘hands on’ to identify new business opportunities, pitch services to new clients and build and maintain a good working relationship with new and existing contacts. This will include communicating new product developments to prospective clients face to face and over the telephone.

Duties will include;

  • Answering the phone in a polite and professional manner and screening phone calls as necessary;
  • Dealing with incoming emails;
  • Meet and greet clients and colleagues, including organising refreshments, meeting rooms and equipment as necessary
  • Identifying and implementing new marketing ideas and business opportunities;
  • Making outbound calls to prospective new clients and developing new business relationships with the aim of generating repeat business;
  • Overseeing business development and marketing initiatives through to completion;
  • Attending networking events on behalf of the companies;
  • Creating and assisting in presentations and CPD training;
  • Being aware of market trends and competitors and making suggestions in line with these;
  • Completing adhoc business development and marketing projects allocated by Directors. This may include research and presenting your finding to the Directors, with your recommendations on how to proceed;
  • Assisting the Directors in developing a marketing and business development plan for the promotion of the various businesses;
  • Travelling with the Directors to events, occasionally internationally;
  • Assisting in Directorial and Managerial decision making as requested;
  • Maintaining a positive attitude that inspires colleagues to grow the business.

 

About you:

  • Prior Business Development experience is required.
  • 9 A* – C GCSE’s, including Math’s and English.
  • Degree level desirable.
  • A pragmatic approach to decisions, whilst also being able to balance risk.
  • Self-motivated and driven for the betterment of the group and its interests.
  • Results driven.
  • Excellent communication skills: spelling, grammar and telephone skills
  • Good computer skills: Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point (production of high quality documents, reports and correspondence, diary and email management in Outlook);
  • A positive attitude;
  • Self confidence and be behind the brand;
  • Problem solving skills;
  • Integrity, honesty and have an excellent work ethic.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and seeing the bigger picture.
  • Flexibility & proactiveness – the Director’s diary and priorities can change at the drop of a hat.
  • Excellent organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise and proactively act on own initiative.
  • Hardworking and calm under pressure
  • A full driving licence – preferable
  • Ability to quickly form professional relationships with colleagues and clients at all levels of seniority.
